About PureHype // The Author
Hi, my name is Alvin. I was born in the year of rat and grew up on a sunny and loving island called Singapore. I’m fluent in English and Mandarin and am able to speak a little of my dialect, Hokkien.
I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic in 2005 with a Diploma in Engineering Informatics where I specialised in engineering software development and networking. Since then, I’ve not had any opportunity to practise what I’ve learnt in school and put it into good use. Thus, this explains the purpose of this website, which is to serve as a personal project and keep my love and interest for technology alive.
Besides building websites, I enjoy other activities like reading, cycling, working out in the gym, endurance run and competitive swimming. Since undergoing refractive surgery last year, I’ve reduced the number of hours spent on computers. Whenever I feel stressed or frustrated, I would hit the pool for a few laps because the sight of submerging in the water helps me to relax and refocus my mind.
Being the only child, I’m not pampered as many would have assumed. Rather, I was told that I’m a little too discipline oriented for people’s liking and projects an anti-social personality. I have to agree with being tagged as anti-social but I have been trying to change for the better and be more involved with the rest. My philosophy in life is “be humble, work smart and stick to your values”. I appreciate and value honesty, transparency and trust in both friendships and relationships. One reason for this could be due to the fact that I come from a conservative family background and these values were inculcated as part of my growing up process.
Besides being a part-time lifeguard during school days and a short stint at Cisco as an intern, I’ve not worked full-time before. Currently, I’m pursing my childhood dream to be a pilot and am undergoing training with the RSAF. This puts my plan and hopes of furthering my education in the university on hold indefinitely though I’ve already secured a place to read computer science in NTU.
Anyway, if you would like interact or know more about me, feel free to drop me a line.
