PureHype's Background

PureHype’s existence on the internet back dated to the year 2000 when Alvin Tan read an article from the then Computer Times — now known as Digital Life and came to know about web logs (also known as blogs). Excited by what could be the next big thing on the internet, he started a personal web log with the limited HTML knowledge in mind.

At that time, there wasn’t any suitable content management system. Thus, every single entry was manually entered into the carefully nested <table> element on the HTML source itself. This proves to be a tedious process and it is near-impossible to archive or even search for past entries.

One fine day, I stumbled onto Blogger, a remote dynamic content management system (CMS). It was definitely a great improvement from what I’ve been using. However, I used it briefly as it did not suit my requirement and needs for more control over my design and contents. I went on to search for a better CMS and eventually found one that suits my needs.

The site found a new home in early 2005 with a non-commercial web host and was renamed to “A Bright Spark”. As the domain registered was www.purehype.org and the title does not reflect and come in association with the domain name, it was decided that the site will be renamed back to PureHype.

In April 2006, the site was redesigned from scratch while the contents were being relocated to another new provider, hopefully staying put for good.
