Just Follow Law

For the non Singaporeans who are not familiar with local movie scenes, Just Follow Law is another successful production from well known local actor turned director Jack Neo. This movie illustrates the social commentary on the society, with characters who reflect reality of life in Singapore.

Through a freak accident that causes two bodies to swap soul, the movie demonstrates the bureaucracy, endless red tape and inefficiency of government bodies and organisations. I must say that the show indeed reflects the reality that we encounter in our lives but this does not necessarily applies to only government organisation. I’m sure those working in multi-national companies in the private sector would echo the same sentiments.

Many times, we realized that people are merely following orders or rules to avoid getting into trouble. Does this means that in order to be more efficient and effective, one would have to deviate from the books? My take on this would be to practice flexibility on various situations. Of course, rules are meant to be followed but one must not be tied down just because the books say so.

The movie does provide some laughs along the way through is characterisation and little situations we face in our working life. However, I thought that it somewhat lost its focus and plot midway, especially on the scene where the souls were swapped. Furthermore, the advertisement from the sponsors proves to be distracting.

All in all, the movie is a great watch for laughter and reality check.
